The concept study of the Toyota Aygo X Prologue heralds a new era for small cars. With a distinctive, self-confident crossover design and numerous clever solutions that promise (driving) fun, the distinctive city car redefines the segment.
Just a few weeks after its commitment to the vehicle class, the Japanese automobile manufacturer has now presented its rolling vision: the Aygo X Prologue. The concept vehicle breaks with conventions. Developed in the European Toyota Design Center ED 2 in Nice and the home offices of the world, the new edition comes up with a design that is unusually self-confident in this segment, which is both dynamic and robust. “With the Aygo X Prologue, we are proving that even a small car can have a big and courageous personality,” explains Deputy Chief Designer Ken Billes.
With its increased ground clearance, the Aygo X Prologue is predestined for freedom-loving adventurers. In conjunction with large tires, the driver enjoys an unusually high seating position for this class, which not only improves comfort but also improves visibility – on and off paved roads. The action camera integrated in the exterior mirror guarantees that nothing is missed.
The striking face of the concept study is characterized by wing-shaped LED headlights, the light band of which is united below the bonnet and the brand logo there. The large hexagonal radiator grille underneath is framed by futuristic-looking fog lights and an underride guard.
When viewed from the side, the wedge-shaped profile of the Aygo X Prologue catches the eye: In conjunction with the roof, which slopes slightly towards the rear and has an integrated railing, it gives the city car a good dose of dynamism even when it is stationary. Strong colors such as “Sparkling Chilli Red”, which shimmer in the light thanks to the blue metallic flakes scattered in the paint, underline the sporty impression again. The black wheel arches, A- and C-pillars and the black rear apron form a striking contrast to the rest of the body.
The hexagonal taillights at the rear are also a subtle homage to the Aygo’s basic DNA. As in the front, there is also a silver-gray underrun protection at the rear, which combines form and function: In addition to a sporty, robust look, there is also an integrated bike rack that can be used to transport both electric bikes and e-bikes. If the small crossover model is parked, the adventure continues on two wheels.

With the Prologue, Toyota is bringing fresh spice to the A segment – and I’m excited to see how it revolutionizes the class, ”says Ian Cartabiano, President of the ED 2 Design Center.
